RDA Steering Committee to meet in Santiago, Chile 6 August 2019

The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) will meet at the Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile in Santiago, Chile from 21-25 October 2019.

Observers are welcome at the public portions of the meeting, which begin Tuesday morning and continue through Thursday. Topics to be considered at the public sessions include any proposals for changes to RDA submitted by the regional representatives, updating RSC policy and procedures documents, and developing a work plan for the RSC for the coming year. The agenda will be publicly posted on the RSC website in mid-September.

Conversation between RSC and BIBFRAME 15 July 2019

Representatives of the RDA Steering Committee and of the Organizer Group of the Annual BIBFRAME Workshops in Europe (among them Library of Congress/NDMSO, LD4P, and Share-VDE) began a conversation at the 2019 ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. about the relationship and interoperability between RDA and BIBFRAME. The group identified short-term and longer-term tasks to pursue and will continue to meet and discuss. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

RDA Examples Editor appointed 26 April 2019

The RDA Steering Committee is pleased to announce that Honor Moody will succeed Kate James as RDA Examples Editor. Honor will begin as RDA Examples Editor Elect on May 1, 2019 with an eight month training period that overlaps with Kate's term. Honor will then take full responsibility in January 2020, serving a two year term.

RDA Examples Editor position open 13 February 2019

The RDA Board and RDA Steering Committee (RSC) seek a qualified library professional with expertise in RDA and cataloging to take on the role of RDA Examples Editor for a two-year term.

Upcoming RDA Steering Committee Meetings 7 January 2019

The RDA Steering Committee received and accepted invitations from the following institutions to host the in-person RSC meeting, held annually in late October or early November:

2019: Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile (Santiago)
2020: National Library of Israel (Jerusalem)
2021: National Library of New Zealand (Wellington)

Changes to RSC Membership 7 January 2019

The RDA Steering Committee announces several changes to its membership:

Kathy Glennan began a four-year term as RSC Chair on January 1, 2019.

Gordon Dunsire has been appointed as Technical Team Liaison Officer, in a two-year term that concludes at the end of December 2020. The Technical Team is in the process of being formed; inquiries to techo@rdatoolkit.org are welcome.

October 2018 RSC Meeting Agenda 17 September 2018

The agenda for the October 2018 meeting of the RDA Steering Committee (RSC) is now available. The RSC will meet October 22-26, 2018 in Montréal, Québec, Canada at the McGill Library.

Observers may attend the public sessions of the meeting. Please contact the RSC Secretary, Linda Barnhart, by October 8 to register to attend any of the public sessions.

The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) and Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) invite interested parties to join us on Monday, 22 October 2018 for "The Redesigned RDA Toolkit: What You Need to Know to Get Ready." This outreach event will be held in Montréal, Québec, Canada, at the Auditorium of the Grande Bibliothèque, BAnQ from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

A document describing the “Outcomes of the RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign Project” by RSC Chair Gordon Dunsire has been posted on the RSC website as RSC/Chair/19.

RDA in MARC 21 meeting

An open discussion of the impact on the MARC 21 encoding standard by changes to RDA is being planned for the ALA Annual meeting in New Orleans. The discussion will take place on Monday, 25 June 2018 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, Churchill C room. Thank you to ALA's Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access for making this meeting time and location available for this purpose.
