Recruitment for RDA Board and RDA Steering Committee (RSC) Members

The RDA Board and the RDA Steering Committee (RSC) have now taken the next step in implementing the new Governance Model by recruiting for a number of key posts on both the Board and the RSC.

Whilst these are unpaid roles, they will provide applicants with valuable developmental opportunities and a unique and exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the team responsible for leading the development of RDA, the global standard enabling discovery of content. The RDA Fund will cover travel and subsistence expenses for meetings.

We are looking to recruit to the following roles:

RDA Board

  • National Institution Representative: Europe (To serve 2017-2020)
  • National Institution Representative: Latin America and the Caribbean (To serve 2017-2019)
  • National Institution Representative: North America (To serve 2017-2019)

Working for a national bibliographic agency in the region which has implemented RDA or will have implemented RDA within a calendar year, the individual will contribute to the strategic direction and overall governance of the standard. They will provide the Board with insight about the impact, challenges, and opportunities of implementing RDA both within their organisation and in the region.

Please note that in this first round of recruitment, in order to aid transition, applications for the European and North American representatives are restricted to institutions currently serving on RDA Board.

RDA Steering Committee

  • Translations Team Liaison Officer (To serve 2017-2019)

Working for an institution that has implemented RDA and with an expert knowledge of RDA, the individual in this position will chair the RSC Translations Working Group and will represent the interests of RDA translators and the RSC Translations Working Group on the RSC. The RDA Translations Team comprises members of the RSC Translations Working Group and other individuals and organizations engaged in translations of RDA. RDA is fully or partially translated in nine languages, with additional translations in preparation. RDA is being developed for international use; this position reflects the importance of ensuring that the needs of non-Anglophone and multilingual communities are properly considered. This position works closely with James Hennelly (ALA Digital Reference), who manages translations of RDA Toolkit. The position also advises the RDA Development Team on the accommodation of translations of RDA Reference in the RDA Registry. Carrying out the responsibilities of the position requires a significant investment of time, and candidates must be able to meet that commitment.

  • Wider Community Engagement Officer (To serve 2017-2020)
  • Working for an institution that has implemented RDA and with an expert knowledge of RDA, the individual in this position will lead engagement with the wider RDA community and users to create a proactive plan and schedule for their contribution to the development of RDA. Although the RDA governance structure is in transition to an international framework, it cannot represent the interests of every organization and community interested in using RDA. This position reflects the importance of ensuring that the needs of those groups are properly considered. This individual will represent the interests of organisations outside of the agreed regional representative bodies and be the liaison for the submission of revision proposals and discussion papers. Carrying out the responsibilities of the position requires a significant investment of time, and candidates must be able to meet that commitment.
